About FlowAi
Flood and river flow forecasts and live gauge observations across Canada
What We Do
FlowAi provides automated streamflow forecasts for over 300 modelled river gauges in Canada, alongside live observations from over 900 gauges in the Water Survey of Canada network and Ontario's Surface Water Monitoring Centre feed.
Our forecasts are generated by AI-developed physically based hydrological models, calibrated to each modelled watershed and enhanced by machine learning post-processing. We forecast streamflow, and water level at stations where a stage-discharge rating passes our checks; elsewhere water level is shown as observed. See how the forecast is made.
Who It's For
Paddlers & Anglers
Check conditions before you go: real-time flow and levels, plus short-range flow forecasts on modelled rivers.
Conservation Authorities
Monitor your watershed: live observations across your gauges, with flow forecasts where a model is in service.
Dam Operators
Flow forecasts at modelled gauges upstream of your structures. Coordinated upstream-downstream views.
Emergency Managers
Early awareness of rising flows. Historical context for current conditions.
How It Works
Data Collection
Real-time observations from over 900 gauges from the Water Survey of Canada and provincial networks (SWMC/KiWIS in Ontario).
Hydrological Modelling
Physically-based hydrological models simulate the water cycle for modelled watersheds using numerical weather prediction inputs.
ML Enhancement
Machine learning post-processing adjusts the raw model forecast to reduce systematic bias. Forecasts are currently 10-day forecasts (today + 9 days).
